November 2007:
Strategic Planning for Sustainability
Cohort: 2005 SS/HS Grantees (Required)
Date: Early November, 2007
Length: Two (2) days
Audience: Project Directors will bring a leadership team from their partnership with a representative from Law Enforcement, Juvenile Justice, Mental Health, and School District Administration.
Description: This two day workshop, co-sponsored by the National Center and the SSHS Communication Teams, will take place in a “to be named” location in early November 2007 for all FY 2005 sites. This is a new event and attendance is required. Each site will bring a team from their partnership that will include representatives from law enforcement, juvenile justice, mental health, and leadership staff from their school district. The training event will include individual/small meetings with peer experts and experts, small group meetings with peers, and meeting time with TASs. There will be presentations and work sessions on sustaining EBIs through evaluation and the NET will be present to share outcome data.
December 2007:
New Grantees Meeting
Cohort: 2007 SS/HS Grantees (Required)
Date: Early December, 2007
Length: Two (2) days
Audience: Project Directors and Superintendent
Description: This is a required meeting for 2007 SS/HS Grantees that will take place in Washington, D.C. Project Directors and Superintendents will attend and the conference which will feature separate training tracks for each. New grantees will meet their Federal Project Officers, Communications Team, and Technical Assistant Specialists for the first time. To complement the meeting, webinars on reporting requirements, FERPA, PPRA, IRB, and budgets will be scheduled.

Webinar - SS/HS Budgets
Cohort: 2007 SS/HS Grantees (Required)
Date: January, 2008
Length: Two (2) hours
Audience: Project Directors, Superintendents, School District Fiscal/Business Office staff
Description: As follow up to the New Grantees Meeting, this webinar for FY 2007 SS/HS grantees will address budgeting and other fiscal requirements.
Project Director Day
Cohort: 2005 SS/HS Grantees (Recommended), 2006 SS/HS Grantees (Recommended), and 2004 SS/HS Grantees (Invited)
Date: January, 2008
Length: Two (2) days
Audience: Project Directors; Local Evaluators (FY 2006 cohort only)
Description: This Project Director Meeting will take place in a “to be named” location. Prior to the meeting, all sites will provide input as to specific meeting topics to be addressed. Work sessions will address these topics, with input from TASs, Project Directors, and consultants. The meeting will allow Project Directors from 2004, 2005, and 2006 SS/HS sites to meet and learn from each other’s experiences. Technical Assistance Specialists will be available to work closely with individual Project Directors to apply what they are learning to their own sites.
As a follow up to last year’s Evaluation Meeting which provided initial work sessions on the logic model, the 06 SS/HS cohort will be encouraged to bring their local evaluators. Project Directors and Evaluators will have the opportunity to work together to facilitate the implementation of the evaluation plan, including the collection of process and outcome measures, and the review of such data by the site evaluation team.
The meeting will also include opportunities to present and learn about exemplary grantee products and tools.
February 2008:
Evaluation Meeting
Cohort: 2007 SS/HS Grantees (Required)
Date: February, 2008
Length: Two (2) days
Audience: Project Directors and Local Evaluators
Description: This meeting, intended for all FY 2007 SS/HS grantee project directors in partnership with their local evaluator, will take place in Washington, D.C. The National Evaluation Team (NET) will present information on goals, outcomes, and data collection for the SS/HS National Evaluation. The Communications Team will address how grantees can effectively communicate evaluation results to diverse audiences. Technical Assistance Specialist staff from the National Center for Mental Health Promotion and Youth Violence Prevention will present the “Evaluation Toolkit”. Technical assistance support for revising logic models and completing evaluation plans will also be provided.
May 2008:
National Project Director’s Day, Communications Institute, and Sustainability Workshop

Length: 2006 and 2007 Grantees: 3 ½ days
2004 and 2005 Grantees: 1 ½ days
Audience: 2007, 2006, 2005, 2004 Project Directors for the first 1 ½ days.
2007 Project Directors + 1 additional person for an additional two days for a Communications Institute 2006 Project directors for an additional two days for a Sustainability Working Meeting
Description: This workshop and training event will bring together all SS/HS Project Directors across cohort years a “to be named” location. The 1 ½ days will be provide multiple opportunities for SS/HS Project Directors to network, share and learn from each others’ experiences. Following this, the 2007 Project Directors (with one additional person from their grant site) will attend the Communications Institute and the 2006 SS/HS Project Directors will attend a Sustainability Working Meeting.
June 2008:
Systems of Care Institutes
Cohort: 2007 SS/HS Grantees (Recommended); 2006 SS/HS Grantees (Recommended); 2005 SS/HS Grantees (Recommended; 2004 SS/HS Grantees (Invited)
Date: June 2008
Length: Three to four (3-4) days
Audience: Systems of Care Grantees, SS/HS Grantees, Technical Assistance Specialists
Description: The theme of the 2008 Systems of Care Institute is the “Year of the School”. The Institutes bring together Systems of Care grantees for in-depth training on topics such as children’s mental health services in community and school-based settings; engaging parents; and building successful community/school collaborations. Selected SS/HS grantees will be invited to present lessons learned from the SS/HS Initiative. SS/HS grantees will also have the opportunity to attend the Institutes’ meetings for State Mental Health Directors, to continue and develop state-wide coordination of SS/HS efforts with other state-based children’s mental health work.

Female Aggression and Violence Teleconference
On August 9, 2007, Jan Stanton, Ph.D., Training and Coaching Institute Director at the Illinois Center for Violence Prevention, introduced participants to the research and literature in the field of Female Aggression and Violence. She discussed the unique social and environmental risk factors that impact girls’ involvement in aggression and violence, as well as characteristics of violence prevention programs that meet the social and developmental needs of girls. This teleconference was hosted by the Latino Networking Group, a subgroup of the National Center for Mental Health Promotion and Youth Violence Prevention.
